A Little Visit At The Shanghai History Museum

A little tour to embrace concised history of Shanghai

Grey sky, thick cloud, blocked sunlight. What a perfect day for outing!!!

It's a tour by chance, actually. I were intended to go for a dessert shop nearby. But my antique-seeking nose found something interesting in there. So, why not just follow it!!!

It's a tour witnessing the form and development of Shanghai.

The building was the tower attetched to the horse racing field about a century ago.

Two pieces of bronze lion greet me in the big hall. These two used to stand in front of a British bank estate at the Bund decades ago.

Going through them, There is a richly decorated by golden colour sedan carried by eight bearers which was used in traditional wedding ceremony during those old times. The more decoration it had, the higher status it could provide.

Behind this, a overall introduction of Shanghai, and it's culture and some historica moments and figures relating to this city.
Einstein gave a speech on his famous Theory of Reletivity in Shanghai on the Eve of New Year of 1923. And it's in Shanghai, several days after that speech, he got the news that he was nominated the Nobel Prize.

Then, go upstairs, it's the exhibition hall for how Shanghai was formed.
It can be dated back to about 6000 years indicated by some prehistoric articles!!!
The name of the city Shanghai, literally, means go towards the sea. It's said the land the city was built on is the result of accumulated mud and sand and soil rushed up by the sea water.
The another name of Shanghai--"Hu" was a kind of fishing tool used by local fisher-gatherers who settled on this land before its official recognition or authority was granted.

The third floor is dedicated to more recent history.
About over 400 years ago, a Italian missionary travelled to the East. He found someone was interested in the Western everything, the renaissance phylosophy, technology, astronomy, mathematics, etc. They colabrated in many books on those subjects. And there was a map of the world which included the complete continents, oceans of the world, and some exotic animals on each continent.

The next floor is about the things and events up he timeline to he revolution period and war time.
Shanghai then was colonised, mainly, by America, Britain, France, Germany.
As the port to the outside world, Shanghai is and was dedicated itself to commerce and businesses.

This one has the story like this: there were two grocery stores, those big ones, positioned face to face alongside a main commercial street in downtown area. Each one accused another of sailing the fake goods. Verbal frictions occure d often. One day, one of the owner casted this piece on which it read the one who sells fake goods is the turtle!!! People then still could not tell whether they, or one of them, were selling fake goods, thus the "God knows!!!" phrase was invented in Shanghai dialect to describe something ambiguous or only the very insider knows!!!

Then, the rooftop of this building.
Up the spiral stairs, and enjoy the view of part of the city from the top!!!
